A British couple have been rescued after being found badly burned at the bottom of a ravine during the devastating wildfires sweeping through Spain's Almería province. The pair, believed to have been hiking when the fast-moving blaze erupted, were discovered semi-conscious by Civil Guard officers after rescuers heard faint calls for help while searching the scorched landscape. Both suffered severe burns covering around 40% of their bodies and were airlifted to hospital, where they remain in intensive care.

The rescue comes as the wildfire continues to rank among Spain's deadliest in recent years, claiming at least 12 lives, forcing more than 1,400 people to evacuate and scorching thousands of hectares of land. More than 500 firefighters and emergency personnel remain on the ground battling the blaze, while authorities continue searching for missing people and urging residents and visitors to follow evacuation orders as difficult conditions persist.
