Manchester United produced a stunning comeback to beat Ipswich Town 5–2 at Old Trafford, recovering from a difficult start to secure their first Premier League win of the season. Ipswich took the lead through Leif Davis after exposing gaps in United’s defence, but Bruno Fernandes levelled just before half-time with a powerful finish. United then took control after the break, with an own goal from Jacob Greaves putting them ahead before Fernandes scored twice more, including a penalty, to complete a superb hat-trick.

Bryan Mbeumo added United’s fifth goal to cap an impressive second-half performance, although Ipswich managed a late consolation through Chuba Akpom. The victory will give Michael Carrick’s side a major confidence boost following their defeat to Hull City in the opening match. Fernandes was the outstanding player, combining goals, creativity and leadership, while United’s attacking play was much improved after the interval. However, the two goals conceded also showed that there is still work to do defensively if United are to challenge consistently this season.
