Jordan Henderson is expected to undergo surgery on the wrist he injured during England's post-match celebrations after their dramatic 3–2 2026 FIFA World Cup victory over Mexico. Multiple reports indicate the injury will rule him out for the remainder of the tournament.

The injury occurred after the final whistle at the Estadio Azteca. Henderson, who was an unused substitute in the match, slipped while climbing over advertising boards to celebrate with England supporters, landing awkwardly on his arm and wrist. He was treated on the pitch, given oxygen, and stretchered to a hospital in Mexico City.

England head coach Thomas Tuchel described the injury as "quite a serious injury" after the match. Reports say Henderson remained in hospital rather than returning with the squad and is expected to have surgery before beginning his recovery.

Although Henderson had played only a limited role on the pitch during this World Cup, his experience and leadership were considered important within the England squad. His absence is another setback as England prepare for their quarter-final against Norway.
