Residents are waking up to the aftermath of a major fire in Sandyford after flames spread from a grassed area towards nearby homes during one of the most challenging days of the summer for firefighters.
The blaze broke out in the Sandyford Park area yesterday evening, sending a huge plume of black smoke into the sky and prompting a major emergency response. Firefighters battled the flames as they spread towards residential properties, while police put a cordon in place and roads in the area were closed.

A number of residents were evacuated as the fire developed, with Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service confirming that properties and gardens had been affected. Residents from parts of Maureen Avenue and Sandy Road were directed towards Goldenhill Community Centre for support while emergency crews continued their work.
