Two Syrian nationals have each been sentenced to 11 years in prison after being found guilty of raping an 18-year-old woman following a night out in Winsford.

At Chester Crown Court, 28-year-old Diyar Mohammed Abdulsalm and 32-year-old Dilgash Adil, both of Ledward Street, Winsford, were jailed after a jury convicted them of the offences. The attack took place in the early hours of 21 December 2025 after the teenager returned to the men's shared property.

Police were called at around 4.55am after concerns were raised for the young woman. Officers found her near The Drumber in Winsford, where she reported that she had been raped after meeting the two men during a night out.

During the trial, the court heard that Adil supplied the victim with alcohol until she was heavily intoxicated and unable to properly consent. Prosecutors said he sexually assaulted her before encouraging Abdulsalm to also rape the teenager while she drifted in and out of consciousness.

Abdulsalm, who had claimed asylum in the UK in May 2023 and was awaiting a decision on his immigration status at the time of the offences, was convicted of two counts of rape. Adil, who was granted refugee status after arriving in the UK from Syria in 2020, was found guilty of one count of rape.

In addition to their prison sentences, both men have been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

In a victim impact statement, the woman described the lasting trauma she has suffered, telling the court she no longer feels safe, experiences panic attacks, struggles to sleep, and feels anxious around strangers.

Sentencing the pair, Judge Simon Berkson said they had deliberately taken advantage of the victim's vulnerability, adding that she was "in no fit state to consent to anything" and had been targeted because of her condition.

Following the sentencing, Detective Chief Inspector Ian Murray said the men had preyed on a young woman who was incapable of giving consent due to her level of intoxication. He said he hoped the convictions and prison sentences would provide the victim with some measure of closure while ensuring the offenders remain behind bars.
