The UK Watchdog Ofcom has launched a formal investigation into social media giant TikTok regarding potential breaches of the Online Safety Act, its main focus has been on the platform's failure to enforce child age-verification systems on the app.
The investigation centres mainly on the age inference technology, which the regulator suspects inadequately protects minors, threatening ByteDance with fines of up to 10% of global turnover.
While TikTok claims compliance and cooperation, this action aligns with tightening UK regulations on social media safety for children.
The UK government is really cracking down on social media, we would love to hear from you so please do comment on this article.
