Motorists are facing major disruption this evening after a crash forced the closure of the A34 in Congleton.

The collision, which was reported at around 5.58pm, has shut the A34 West Road in both directions between Tesco Express and the Orange Tree Bar & Grill.

Traffic monitoring service Inrix reported slow-moving traffic and delays building in the area as emergency services responded to the incident. Drivers are being urged to avoid the route where possible and seek alternative roads while the closure remains in place.

It is not yet known how many vehicles were involved or whether anyone has been injured.
