England manager Thomas Tuchel has praised Mexico’s supporters for their respectful behaviour despite heightened security measures ahead of the World Cup last-16 clash in Mexico City.

Although England’s hotel was protected by National Guard personnel and riot police following concerns raised after Ecuador reported fan disturbances earlier in the tournament, Tuchel said his team had experienced a warm and respectful welcome. He described the atmosphere as “nicer than I expected,” adding that FIFA had handled the security arrangements well and that England expected a peaceful night before the match.

While acknowledging challenges such as the high altitude at the Estadio Azteca and the passionate home crowd, Tuchel stressed that his players remained calm, focused, and ready to embrace the occasion rather than be distracted by external factors
